Recursion Software announces private beta of next-generation mobile development platform
FRISCO, Texas (June 25, 2008) - Recursion Software, Inc., an innovative provider of next-generation platforms and intelligent middleware, today released a private beta version of their Voyager mobile platform, with powerful interoperability for Android, Microsoft .NET and Compact Framework (CF), all Java editions (JME CDC, JSE and JEE), and more than 15 embedded operating systems. The Voyager platform is a powerful cross-platform development environment that allows developers to write one code-set natively in either Java or .NET and publish the code to mobile or desktop nodes that can execute transactions at runtime regardless of the virtual machine they employ. This beta version is an important step towards write once, run everywhere for application messaging and communications. An invitation to the private beta can be requested at www.recursionsw.com/V7beta
The Voyager platform picks up where browser applications leave off by forgoing a centralized server architecture and embracing a true peer-to-peer decentralized architecture of nodes-turned-intelligent client and server that publish and subscribe to an ad hoc mobile community over any wired or wireless network. Voyager enables extremely lightweight code to reside on the client so that transactions and persistence occur locally with or without a network connection, avoiding any single point of failure or scaling issues that can hinder even todays most popular mobile applications. Cross-platform decentralized chat and collaboration, as well as merchant-to-consumer intelligent shopping communities are just two of Voyager application prototypes currently under development.
Voyager makes possible a new breed of killer apps sharing real-time, location-based information and participating in peer-to-peer collaboration, commerce and tasks, said Bob DeAnna, CTO with Recursion Software. A pervasive software platform that that will simplify the choice between fragmented toolsets and standards is needed for this vision to be realized. Voyager provides developers with a single platform that essentially future-proofs their development strategy. We are extremely excited to release this beta version of Voyager and to continue working with our government and enterprise clients to build applications that span mobile, embedded and desktop worlds.
The GA release for Voyager 7 is expected in Q3 2008 with additional enhancements planned, such as native support for JME CLDC/MIDP, Brew, and iPhone. At that time the company also plans to launch new branding and an updated website to reflect its mobile focus. A free developer download of the latest Voyager 6.2 platform is available at recursionsw.com.
