LONDON, September 14 -- LogicaCMG today announces the official opening of its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) demonstration centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
The centre features the 'connected enterprise' with practical implementations of RFID displayed in a virtual manufacturing and supply chain environment, using today's technology to demonstrate seamless integration of RFID with back office management systems. This is the first European facility to showcase end-to-end integration of RFID technology with SAP business systems, which are deployed by leading organisations worldwide, and demonstrate the results that can be achieved from a fully streamlined, real time supply chain architecture.
The RFID demo centre displays proven solutions that are based on best-of-breed components of RFID tags, readers and middleware platforms, providing full integration with the back end supply chain and resource management system. It shows the application of active and semi-passive RFID tags that are equipped with a battery to enable longer-range communication and better read-rates, as well as passive tags, where the power is supplied by the reader. The solutions demonstrated can be applied across a number of vertical industries, including aviation, logistics, utilities, defence, retail and manufacturing.
LogicaCMG has successfully completed RFID projects worldwide including a real-time, location-based warehousing system at a new chemical plant in Belgium for Vos Logistics, and an RFID tagging solution for aircraft manufacturer Airbus to track tools all the way from point of origin. The new demo facility is part of LogicaCMG's global RFID centre of excellence, which brings together the company's expertise in this technology and supports RFID delivery centres around the world.
Paul Stam de Jonge, group director RFID solutions at LogicaCMG, said: "RFID technology is revolutionising the control that businesses have over their supply chain and the level of process efficiency that can potentially be achieved. Organisations can identify and track assets, parts and products in real time, and now we are demonstrating how this information can be seamlessly integrated with their existing back end SAP systems. The new demo centre shows all of these benefits in a practical, real-world environment using technology that is available for businesses to deploy in their own organisations today."
The following LogicaCMG partners have provided support for the RFID demo centre: ConnecTerra, IBM, Intermec, Kortenburg Inc, PowerPaper, Printronix, SamSys and SAP contributed software and hardware to the facility.
