Another LBSZone Alert has been released... enjoy this edition for the latest developments in Location-based services.
Interesting research findings coming out this week. From ABI we have
the following; OS software vendors will soon face a serious challenge,
deriving from two technically competent and coalesced Linux consortia.
ABI Research vice president and research director Stuart Carlaw states,
"By 2013, we expect that Linux will take 23% of the smartphone market
and will be the second most prevalent solution behind Symbian. And
although LiMo and Android will take the lion's share of the market for
Linux solutions, there will be opportunities for solutions such as
Maemo which will be facilitated by the encroachment of the MID (Mobile
Internet Device) form factor into the mobile devices landscape."
Particularly of interest is reference to the paltry 4% marketshare that
Symbian is currently enjoying in the US mnarket."ABI noted that It is
imperative that Symbian looks to grow its share of the North American
market by gaining more traction from other handset vendors"... hmmmm,
we'll wait and see on that one I guess (see below for more). Moving
forward, building on the success of the popular (and one of my favorite
apps) Nokia Sports Tracker, the Nokia Beta team recently launched a new
application, Nokia Step Counter
(Beta). Those of you who are Sports Tracker fans should definitley
check this one out. Speaking of Sports Tracker, I recently referenced
how useful this app could have been in the aftermath of a recent
tornado that blasted through my local town of Windsor, Colorado - I listed some thoughts on this blog.
Finally, Don't forget to save the date for Code Camp LBS
as its coming fast at June 10, 2008 in MountainView CA. And a parting
tip... if you're like me and try to use Jaiku, twitter, facebook,
LinkedIn, etc... you might consider checking out helloTXT to update all of your social apps at once... very handy! Have a nice week and remember, without the "L" it's just BS!
