Application developers invited to submit LBS applications for the new
LBS Out the Box Contest; winners will be showcased at Mobile World
Congress 2009
Gent, Belgium, 30 May 2008 Tele Atlas (FSE: TA6, EUNV: TA), a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, today announced the expansion of the Tele Atlas LBS Innovator Series with the opening of the call for entries in the first event to be held in EMEA: the LBS Out the Box contest. The expansion of Tele Atlass LBS Innovators Series to European, Middle Eastern and African markets demonstrates the companys continued commitment to wireless and web location-enabled application development.
Consumer demand for more sophisticated location-enhanced services is growing and the industry stage is poised for rapid market growth with mass availability of location-enabled devices. Carriers, manufacturers and software providers are seeking innovative features that differentiate their offerings and to drive new revenues, said Rik Temmink, vice president of global content products, Tele Atlas. By inviting developers from the EMEA region to participate in our successful Innovators Series program, we hope to further foster innovation in location-based services and encourage a new generation of application providers to create diverse web and mobile software leveraging digital map data and related content.
LBS Out the Box is part of the Tele Atlas LBS Innovators Series, an ongoing program held in conjunction with Tele Atlas DeveloperLinkSM to help foster innovation and enable application developers to increase their visibility, credibility and success with key participants in the industry including carrier operators and technology providers. Entries will be judged based on commercial viability and innovative use of maps in the application in two categories:
* Market Ready, in which entrants will submit a compelling LBS solution that is developed to offer consumers a commercially ready, end-to-end solution; and
* Disruptive Innovation, in which entrants will submit an innovative location-enhanced solution designed to push the boundaries in the LBS market.
The contest entails:
* WHO: Participation is open to developers of mobile and web applications using Tele Atlas data in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; entries will be submitted in one of the events categories: Market Ready and Disruptive Innovation.
* WHAT: Over 100,000 prizes will be awarded, including cash and Tele Atlas map data licenses. Two grand finalists will showcase their applications on the Tele Atlas stand at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona.
* WHEN: Registration is open through August 1, 2008.
