Atlanta, Ga. May 5, 2008 AirSage announces the launch of the
AirSage Developer Zone, an opportunity for the developer community to
gain open access to the companys real-time traffic information.
AirSage is providing direct access to its unique speed and flow traffic
information which developers can use to create their own unique traffic
applications.
AirSage Announces Launch of the AirSage Developer Zone, Free and Open Access to AirSage Data for Entrepreneurial Developers
Interested developers can visit the AirSage Web site, www.airsage.com, to gain free access to traffic information from one of a select number of major U.S. markets. Additional markets may be made available on request. Unlike traffic data available in the past that covered only major urban interstates, AirSage provides speed and travel time information for urban and rural interstates, freeways and arterials.
The Atlanta-based company has been sharing its data with developers for some time, but until now there was no formal process. Developers will be able to access an actual data feed as well as a map overlay. They can use the data to create their own Navigation, Web, Logistics, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and other traffic applications.
AirSage is the only traffic data company innovative enough to share its data in this fashion, said Michelangelo Ho, director of AirSages Product Group. We feel this is an important service for our customers and potential customers.
AirSage traffic data is derived from its patented Wireless Signal Extraction, or WISE, technology. AirSage is unique in the traffic world as it uses anonymous signals from motorists cell phones to provide real-time traffic information on hundreds of thousands of miles of roadways. Its unprecedented access to signaling data allows AirSage to process more than 1.2 billion location events each day. This rich data stream allows AirSage to determine the speed of the traffic and identify congested choke points that delay drivers.
The AirSage Developer Zone allows us to lower the barriers and reach out to consumers as well as product development interests, said Cy Smith, AirSages founder and CEO. This cooperative exchange will undoubtedly lead to the development of a creative, entrepreneurial community that we hope will open exciting new markets for all parties involved.
