HeyWhatsThat was recently recognized as a runner up (Second Runner-up) in the 2008 NAVTEQ LBS Challenge. The app offers users access to a contours mapplet, a path profiler, and an interesting sea level rise visualization tool.
This cool app enables users to view a landmark or peak on a terrain
map along with a cross-section/profile in a panorama landscape.
About
the app:
You're on top of a mountain or pulled over at a scenic
overlook. You see distant summits. What are they? HeyWhatsThat provides
panoramic sketches and the names of visible peaks. You can browse
panoramas that someone else has requested and generate your own. And
you can do it via web, email and phone. The Path Profiler feature allows you to create a path and generate its elevation profile - try it http://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html.
HeyWhatsThat's solution, HeyWhatsThat, provides detailed information
about the mountains and peaks around the user such as mountain names,
elevations, contours and viewsheds -- all through the user's mobile
device.
