carhs.communication releases new version of its rapid development environment viilab for location-based applications in vehicles
Alzenau, 29 February 2008 The viilab® environment for wireless car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication applications enables automotive manufacturers and suppliers to rapidly develop location-based applications in the fields of vehicle safety, comfort and infotainment.
viilab 1.2 now includes the new GUI development environment VUI (Viilab User Interface) and multi-signal data recording for testing and simulation.
VUI uses SOAP/TCP based information transfer which enables remote display access. This also allows for a distributed GUI architecture to avoid high processor loads on critical communication events due to display updates.
VUI is based on the Gecko Rendering Engine and XUL technologies. This approach allows a highly flexible development process and a strict separation between design, layout and user input interaction. User interface development is now as fast as writing a website while it uses similar technologies such as XML and Javascript. Like viilab it supports different operating systems, e.g. Linux and Windows. To simplify display state handling, VUI provides a configurable storyboard concept. A control file specifies states and their transitions, significantly exceeding the possibilities provided by a classic state machine. Therefore changes in the order of display states can be immediately applied without modifying any source code.
viilab now also supports data recording and playback for automotive CAN (Controller Area Network), GPS, remote messages and other signal sources. This allows the integration of simulated and stored data, both for simple test drives and for the simulation of complex scenarios in the development process. In addition, data analysis becomes much more efficient due to reliable event logging.
viilab has proven to be a valuable tool for rapid application development for wireless communication in an automotive environment. The new version significantly enhances viilabs functionality to develop modern GUIs and further strengthens viilabs unique simulation capabilities. This reduces time-to-market for automotive communication applications drastically, says Rainer Hoffmann, Managing Director of carhs.communication gmbh.
viilab® is a registered trademark of carhs.communication gmbh.
