THALWIL, Switzerland, February 28 -- u-blox, the leading
Swiss provider of GPS receiver technology, will perform live GALILEO
satellite tracking demonstrations at the 2008 CeBIT trade show to be
held in Hanover, Germany, on its revolutionary u-blox 5 A-GPS and
GALILEO-ready chip.
u-blox' commitment to stay at the forefront of GALILEO development has led it to participate in several EU-funded research projects, such as the GREAT project(1), aimed at developing next generation GALILEO receivers for mass market applications.
CeBIT, which runs from March 4-9, is the world's leading ICT show and is expected to attract nearly half a million visitors and over 6000 exhibitors this year. This makes it the largest marketplace for digital IT and telecommunications solutions, providing a unique opportunity for product manufacturers, service providers and distributors to meet, exchange views and do business.
u-blox will be promoting its 50-channel, hybrid u-blox 5 positioning engine, the first to simultaneously track GPS and GALILEO satellites. u-blox' fifth generation of GPS chips and modules use a combination of satellite systems, including SBAS augmentation systems, to compute a position.
"With u-blox 5, u-blox has reasserted itself as a highly innovative company, pioneering the hybrid engine market. GALILEO will endow our engines with better coverage, higher positioning accuracy, better multipath mitigation and higher overall reliability and availability," said Thomas Seiler, u-blox CEO.
Endowed with award-winning SuperSense indoor GPS and KickStart weak signal acquisition technologies, u-blox 5 GPS chips and modules boast an acquisition and tracking sensitivity of -160 dBm, which enables fast, uninterrupted positioning, even in challenging, weak signal environments like urban canyons, covert parking lots, shopping malls and train stations.
All u-blox 5 products support AssistNow, u-blox' free A-GPS services, which boost acquisition performance, reducing the engine's Time-To-First-Fix down to 1 second, making u-blox 5 the fastest positioning engine in the market. u-blox' AssistNow Offline service provides assistance data valid for up to 14 days, enabling applications that do not require connectivity at every start-up.
"Our cutting-edge u-blox 5 positioning engine is powering a whole new range of innovative GPS-enabled applications. With u-blox 5, personal navigation devices and smartphones now benefit from instant positioning even in weak signal areas, enabling users to quickly and accurately benefit from navigation and location-based services in indoor and outdoor environments alike," added Mr. Seiler.
Currently in mass production, u-blox 5 chips and modules are standalone GPS receivers that come in a wide array of form factors. Their compact, self-contained architectures can be quickly and easily integrated, offering original equipment and device manufacturers reduced development costs and minimal product time-to-market.
Visitors to u-blox' booth in Hall 15, D27 will be able to see live GALILEO satellite tracking demonstrations upon prior arrangement. Please contact to arrange a meeting with a u-blox sales representative.
Additionally, visitors can attend "Dead reckoning for uninterrupted navigation" at CeBIT in Motion (Hall 15, Stand D41) on Friday March 7, 10:00-10:30 am, which will be presented by Kartsen Tietz, u-blox Vice President Sales EMEA.
