Recently Introduced Flagship 3G and EDGE Handsets Supported by Innovative Front-end Solutions from Skyworks
WOBURN, Mass.-- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS), an innovator of high performance analog and mixed signal semiconductors enabling mobile connectivity, today announced that it is gaining traction at LG Electronics by virtue of strong demand for its suite of front-end solutions coupled with several strategic design wins. In particular, Skyworks is at the heart of several of LGs recently introduced models including the LG-KF700, LG-KF600, LG-KF610 and LG-KF510 (see accompanying multimedia).
Skyworks is delighted to be supporting LG Electronics with our family of front-end solutions as they increasingly launch ultra-slim, feature-rich and easy-to-use mobile handsets, said Liam K. Griffin, senior vice president, sales and marketing for Skyworks. In fact, based on the exciting response to their latest generation of wireless platforms at Mobile World Congress last week in Barcelona, Spain, we expect LG to be a catalyst for accelerating growth for Skyworks throughout 2008. Further, we believe our highly integrated GSM and EDGE front-end modules complemented by our WCDMA solutions are well aligned to meet LGs increasing 3G needs. Our success at LG and at others reflects our unique ability to provide customized architectures which incorporate all critical WCDMA bands working in concert with our selection of 2.5G or 2G FEMs. As the market transitions to multi-mode and multi-band 3G implementations, Skyworks is well positioned to lead in both performance and integration.
Among the phones LG launched last week at Mobile World Congress, the LG-KF700, supported by the SKY77329 power amplifier (PA), is the worlds first multimedia phone that combines three input methods -- a three-inch touchscreen display, slide-out alpha-numeric keypad, and Shortcut Dial at the back -- to create an intuitive user interface (UI) that provides instant access to features. This functionality makes it ideal for watching movies and accessing the Internet in a slim, tri-band slider package. In addition, users can flip through numerous applications including a calendar, scheduler and memo pad.
Powered by the SKY77340 PA, the LG-KF600 is an award-winning slider mobile phone that is feature rich and easy-to-use with its InteractPad that replaces physical navigation keys with context-specific virtual keys. The interface is designed for controlling multimedia features like the handsets digital audio player, camera and camcorder.
Meanwhile, the LG-KF510, also supported by the SKY77340 PA, caters to users demand for an even slimmer slider phone. At just 10.9 mm thick, the tri-band handsets user interface includes animation based on LGs advanced-touch technology.
In addition, equipped with the SKY77519 front-end module (FEM), the LG-KT610 candy bar mobile phone helps users take full advantage of multimedia features and applications based on Symbian OS, HSDPA connectivity at 3.6 megabits per second (Mbps), global positioning system (GPS) navigation capabilities, and a PC-like QWERTY keypad with push-email functionality for simplified Web browsing.
