Introduces the Mobile Client Suite Including a New Mobile Browser, MIDAS-based Mobile Widgets and MIDAS Messaging
Mobile World Congress 2008

BARCELONA, Spain-- Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:OPWV), one of the world’s leading software innovators enabling revenue-generating personalized services which converge the mobile and broadband experience, today announced the Openwave Mobile Client Suite, a complete and integrated solution that leverages proven client products and several key product upgrades in user experience, browsing and messaging.

The Mobile Client Suite offers consumers, mobile operators and mobile device manufacturers a scalable and optimized solution across a wide range of platforms and market tiers. The suite includes the introduction of the Openwave Surfer browser, a full open internet browser with Web 2.0 functionality, and a new version of the Openwave MIDAS environment with advanced support for mobile widgets and mobile messaging. The Openwave Mobile Client suite is designed to help mobile operators and handset manufacturers build and deploy innovative products and services that drive the consumption of high-value personalized content and services.

“The first phase of the mobile Internet was largely driven by technology and access to services. At Openwave, we see the next phase driven by greater service adoption and usage, which will increase the overall value of mobile device products and afford operators a greater ability to monetize the mobile Internet experience,” said John Boden, senior vice president of product management, Openwave. “Openwave’s Mobile Client suite provides device suppliers the means to deliver innovative product designs and easily customize them for a diverse set of market and operator requirements with lower cost and risk. The client suite gives operators the ability to create and deliver ‘zero-click’ service delivery across devices and to leverage the idle screen for active content consumption.”

Openwave Client Suite

The unique combination of Openwave’s core mobile client applications enables operators and device manufacturers to customize and personalize applications for low-end, mainstream and high end device platforms with compelling user experiences and multi-functional service-use scenarios tailored to market needs and personalized for specific users.

Enabling Mass Customization and Personalization with Openwave Mobile Widgets and MIDAS

The Openwave Client Suite enables device suppliers to create high-volume, low cost products that can be customized for specialized customer requirements and market needs with low incremental cost and time-to-market. Operators can use these customizable products to craft personalized user experiences and innovative services deployed in the channel or over-the-air that are deeply branded and differentiated. The Openwave Mobile Widgets solution is based on the Openwave® Mobile Integrated Dynamic Application System (MIDAS) client application development environment, which is an AJAX-based runtime environment that leverages common web technology, standards, and developer tools and additional functions needed to deliver a complete solution and optimize the mobile experience. It provides the ability to design a personalized service experience that can be easily developed and quickly deployed over the life of the product controlled by a robust security and policy management system. The Openwave Mobile Widgets solution and MIDAS are available now.

Openwave Surfer

The Openwave Surfer browser is designed to bring full open internet browsing (OIB) capabilities and Web 2.0 functionality to mobile devices. Surfer supports W3C and OMA industry standards, and facilitates access to both mobile and internet-based services, as well as advanced features such as touch screen and mouse pointer support, visual multi-path history navigation, Web 2.0 tagging and widgets. Surfer complements current Openwave browsers, which include the Mercury mobile web browser that provides standards based web browsing for mainstream feature phones and Mobile Browser Version 6 optimized for entry level devices with modest platform capabilities. Openwave’s portfolio of mobile browsers offers scalable and optimized solutions matched to the industry platform levels and market segments. Openwave Surfer is designed as an easy upgrade for existing platforms with the Openwave Mercury browser and for new platforms that need scalable browser options.

Openwave MIDAS Messaging

The Openwave MIDAS Messaging solution provides a highly flexible, programmable method of creating messaging applications and crafting unique user experiences quickly and easily. The solution combines Openwave’s industry leading core messaging client applications including SMS, EMS, MMS, Email, and Instant Messaging with the Mobile Widgets and user interface capabilities of Openwave MIDAS. This provides a programmable messaging environment that is used to create different messaging experiences and functional approaches to meet a wide range of customer and user requirements on a common product using common web development methodology. Openwave MIDAS Messaging is available for delivery now.

Support for a Wide Variety of Devices and Platforms

The Openwave Mobile Client Suite is integrated over a common framework to reduce porting and integration effort. It runs on most mobile device platforms, including Microsoft Windows Mobile®, Symbian OS™, BREW®, QTopia®, Linux™, and a variety of common proprietary feature phone platforms.
