NIM Labs to Develop Applications Beyond Navigation and Local Search
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 6, 2008 Networks In Motion (NIM), the award-winning wireless navigation and location-based services (LBS) company, today announced that it has established NIM Labs as its research and development arm of the company to develop products outside the companys core navigation expertise.
Based in NIMs Aliso Viejo, Calif. headquarters, NIM Labs will work on next generation social networking solutions; advanced mobile phone platforms; advanced mobile devices and new wireless platforms, such as WiMAX and 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE). NIM Labs will also work with leading technology companies and industry alliances.
During Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona, Feb. 11-14, NIM Labs will demonstrate a WiMAX-connected navigation system for consumers that is similar to installed auto navigation devices but with the ability to access real-time location assisted search and travel information. Other products in development include mobile social networking applications and mobile advertising.
NIM Labs is a launch pad for bringing NIMs expertise in mobile networked applications to new and expanding markets, and it underscores our commitment to innovation, said Michael Sheha, co-founder and CTO for Networks In Motion. The creative team at NIM Labs will serve as a visionary think-tank to bring new concepts to market that will improve the daily lives of people on-the-go and maintain the companys LBS leadership.
NIM Labs has membership in various industry organizations, including the CTIA Working Group on Interoperability and Location. To date, Networks In Motion has obtained more than 50 worldwide patents for products and features that will be brought to market.
