(CES Las Vegas, 7 January 2008) Destinator Technologies Inc, leaders in
navigation software, today announces the launch of tobe (pronounced
tow-be) a new powerful and personalised location-based content
service for personal navigation device and wireless device users
worldwide.
Combining on-board and off-board content that can be updated in real time, tobe brings together a wide range of information sources including points of interest, safety camera information, traffic updates plus location-sensitive and user-generated content from a single easy to use source.
Initially, tobe users can access a wide range of services including:
- major city maps
- local search
- travel guides
- user generated content on the best restaurants, clubs and bars that can be shared with other users
- POI sharing
- buddy-finding
- safety camera information
- real time traffic alerts via TMC
- local events updates
Tobe will be offered to Destinators major brand partners in both the PND and wireless market as a value added service delivering new levels of interaction, dynamic content and usability.
Visitors to CES can see Tobe content and services live at the following Destinator partners booths: RAMAR(North 5926 Hilton 51017), LGE(Booth# 8214), MSI(LVCC south Hall4 , booth# 35585), MAG(Luxor Hotel, Proview Booth), CPIT(Hilton 45005 & 45007). It will be commercially available in February 2008.
Further services are already planned with a number of content providers positioned to offer services via tobe. As an open platform, tobe provides third party content developers and services the opportunity to deliver a wider range of even more innovative personalised services.
Initially, tobe will offer content covering over 20 countries with PND users able to access information via their PCs and the user-friendly tobe website. Mobile device users can access real-time information via GPS whilst they are on the move.
Region-specific services will also be featured in tobe. For example, in China, Destinator has developed the Public Transportation Planner, which allows users to find best route for bus and subway travel. In North America, tobe will include a gas price comparison service automatically searching for the gas stations within the 2.5 kilometre radius for the lowest price. European users can access the very latest speed camera update seamlessly integrated into the navigation experience.
Destinator Technologies Chief Operating Officer Jeff Kukowski said: Tobe brings together existing and brand new content in a compelling integrated and personalised package that will grow and expand in the direction the user takes it.
Imagine the scenario: youre visiting a new city and need all the relevant information both en route and when you arrive. Tobe delivers everything you need including the sort of personalised, user-generated content which guides people to make buying decisions on hotels, restaurants, shops and services.
This is very much the first step but we look forward to working with our partners and end users to make tobe the most relevant, entertaining and smartest travel companion.
