NAVTEQ Maps(R) Provide Routing Foundation for XOG(TM) Crossover Navigation GPS
CHICAGO, Dec. 4 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, today announced that Lowrance, a leading brand in marine electronics and GPS navigational systems, has selected NAVTEQ as the map provider for its new mobile navigation device. The XOG Crossover Navigation GPS will utilize comprehensive NAVTEQ maps for the United States and Canada.
The latest evolution in mobile navigation products from Lowrance, the XOG combines the requisites of an in-dash system with the convenience of a portable device. Flexible routing capabilities allow consumers the freedom to navigate streets, waterways and open-air terrain. Turn-by-turn voice guidance complements visual cues, enhancing the user experience. Intuitive menus are projected on a high-resolution color touch-screen for optimal viewing and interaction. Each XOG is equipped with a high-sensitivity GPS chipset allowing for reception in environments with weak signal strength. In addition, every device provides the latest entertainment features including a built-in MP3 player and JPEG picture viewer.
The versatile XOG comes pre-loaded with comprehensive NAVTEQ digital maps of the U.S. and Canada, with additional maps available for outdoor exploration and niche environments. Users also gain access to NAVTEQ's verified Points of Interest database which includes over three million destinations such as restaurants, hotels, banks, hospitals and gas stations.
"NAVTEQ not only maintains fresh data for a constantly evolving environment but continuously enhances its offerings," commented Gordon Sprouse, director of marketing, Lowrance (Navico). "As our products continue to explore navigation's vast possibilities, we always turn to NAVTEQ for its first-class data."
Lowrance has relied on NAVTEQ maps since the introduction of its first automotive navigation product three years ago. Every mobile navigation device with turn-by-turn street guidance that Lowrance has subsequently released has been powered by NAVTEQ data.
"Lowrance continues to develop cutting-edge products that maximize the power of location and its many facets," stated Winston Guillory, senior vice president, consumer and enterprise, NAVTEQ. "The ability to provide a flexible user experience is becoming an integral part of portable navigation. We look forward to the expansion of this emerging trend as devices are created to meet the diverse needs of the consumer."
