Comprehensive system to enhance public safety and security
UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill., Dec. 5 -- Federal Signal Corporation's Safety and Security Systems Group, a leader in advancing security and well-being, announced today that the County of Abbeville, S.C., has deployed its Federal Signal SmartMsg mass citizen alerting system to enable interoperable communications with more than 25,000 citizens and 25 key first responders.
"Federal Signal's mass citizen alerting system provides our county with a comprehensive citizen alerting and notification system for emergency situations that impact public safety and security," said Steven McDade, director, emergency management for the County of Abbeville, S.C. "This robust system pulls information from the National Weather Service and alerts impacted citizens, and it provides advance information on school and road closings to help our first responders better protect our citizens and communities."
The Federal Signal SmartMsg mass citizen alerting system provides a secure and reliable method for public safety administrators to notify citizens of situations ranging from flood, tornado and chemical spill emergencies, to school closings and road closures. Individual citizens can "opt-in" to the notification database by either providing information to the agency website or with a simple mail-in form. Notification options include any device combination of home phone, cell phone, office phone, e-mail, text message and pager. The system features the Federal Signal Geographic Information System (GIS), which enables the system administrator to select specific areas to alert in emergency situations.
"Federal Signal is excited to help emergency operations and first responder leaders in the County of Abbeville, S.C., effectively reach citizens during a variety of situations," said David R. McConnaughey, president of Federal Signal's Safety and Security Systems Group. "Federal Signal's critical communications systems play a key part in efforts to make communities safer and more secure every day."
The Codespear-enabled Federal Signal SmartMsg mass citizen alerting system is part of the Federal Signal interoperability platform to advance safety, security and well-being in communities and workplaces around the world.
