Dataset features 4 new European countries, new North American attributes and a global spec
CHICAGO, Nov. 28 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has announced an expanded version of NAVTEQ Transport with new coverage in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium and Luxembourg, new data types and a harmonized global specification to enhance the functionality of truck routing and logistics planning applications across North America and Western Europe. NAVTEQ Transport enables applications to plan truck-specific routes using the leading NAVTEQ(R) map to improve efficiency and lower operating costs.
"With the move many of our customers are making to fewer, larger trucks, truck-specific restriction data has never been more important. With the expanded coverage in Europe and new hazardous materials information for North America, NAVTEQ Transport improves the ability of fleet operators, truck drivers and applications to plan approved routes and estimate delivery times more accurately. More efficient routing translates into lower fuel consumption and environmental benefits" said Cliff Fox, senior vice president, map division.
NAVTEQ Transport includes:
-- Physical restrictions such as height, weight, width and length
-- Legal restrictions including truck specific turn restrictions and speed
limits
-- Warning information for hills and curves
-- Transport-specific Points of Interest
-- Hazardous materials restrictions and preferred routes (new for North
America)
Because of the success of the product, a global rollout plan balancing coverage on the most frequently used sections of roadway with customer requirements has been developed. The product has previously being available in the United States, France and Germany enabling with the 4 new countries pan-regional long-haul routing in addition to the existing highly accurate short-haul routing data.
The new harmonized global specification makes working with the data easier for global customers. The data is updated and released quarterly to regularly provide the most current information to users.
The product is unique in the industry in quality, coverage and its ability to work in concert with other NAVTEQ data products. NAVTEQ employs over 700 geographic analysts to collect information in the field and combines this proprietary data with high quality sources that have been field verified for accuracy. When combined with NAVTEQ's unique Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) data, NAVTEQ Traffic(TM) real-time traffic flow and incident data or other products from the NAVTEQ portfolio like Driver Alerts, applications using NAVTEQ Transport can provide powerful, competitive advantage to its customers -- both in the back office and in the cab.
