DENVER, CO November 14, 2007- For hikers, bikers, travelers and
adventurers of all kinds, LocationNation today announced the release of
the GeoSpatial Media Organizer (GSMO), a free online service for
managing and sharing personal Global Positioning System (GPS) data.
GSMO combines the use of recreational GPS receivers with online social networking to create the first free online service for downloading, displaying and sharing collected GPS data. GSMO allows users to publish the GPS data collected from road trips, hikes, camping excursions, vacations or adventures of any kind online and then either share it with family, friends or communities or display it privately. The data can be personalized with pictures, text, maps, videos and other customization options.
The use of recreational GPS and online social networking are two of the fastest-growing uses of technology today, but until now there hasnt been a good way for people to share the data and maps theyre collecting with their GPS receivers with family, friends and people with similar interests, said Dave Goughnour, chief executive officer of LocationNation. With GSMO, people can create communities and share information about the best route to take for a road trip and where to stop for a great burger, or the best hikes for viewing the fall foliage, and everything in between, complete with photos, maps, notes and more.
GSMO is available at no charge through http://locationnation.com and includes unlimited Internet Map Server (IMS) usage, providing street level data and aerial photo maps. Users get complete access to user communities, where they can create communities, invite guests and display features on a map, as well as 50Mb of free server space and a free download of GPS Connector for hassle-free GPS data transfer. GSMO works with any Garmin or Magellan handheld GPS device.
