NorthStar Application Enriched to Deliver Next-Generation LBS Offerings
Fremont, CA, October 15, 2007 Spime Inc., a leading provider of location intelligence solutions, announced it will leverage innovative map data from Tele Atlas, a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, to help power the NorthStar mobile local search and personal navigation application for mobile phones.
NorthStar is designed for both, in-car navigation and pedestrian navigation, said Kris Kolodziej, Spime CTO. NorthStar supports millions of POIs, traffic alerts, 3D landmarks and custom brand icons for commercial POIs like restaurant chains; these can be supplemented with extra information, for instance restaurant reviews or location-based advertisement from merchants.
Maps will incorporate public transport options such as buses and subways, as well as data on pedestrian shortcuts through parks or walkways that cars cannot take, Kolodziej added. 3D viewsheds and improved map material will facilitate orientation.
"Tele Atlas is excited to be working with an innovator such as Spime, said Darren Koenig, Tele Atlas Director of Wireless, Internet and Telecom Markets. By integrating sophisticated map data products including Tele Atlas Address Points and Brand Icons into their solutions, Spime will be able to help deliver their customers more precise content and intuitive user displays to enhance their mobile navigation experience."
NorthStar, a mobile local search and personal navigation application for mobile phones, performs automatic route finding and voice navigation, in the manner of a powerful personal navigation device product. In addition to turn-by-turn functionality, and point-of-interest (POI) search, NorthStar features geo-tagging for multimedia content sharing, social-networking friend finder capability, and location widgets that integrate with local address books, in one single, powerful application. NorthStar is now available for Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Embedded CE 6. A Java and Symbian version will be available by end 2007, followed by BREW implementations.
