Ronneby, Sweden, October 16, 2007 - UIQ Technology announced today the
start of the second annual UIQ Open, a developer competition aimed at
finding and showcasing the most innovative, useful and entertaining
third-party applications on the UIQ software development platform.
The UIQ Open is an application competition where mobile software development companies submit UIQ 3 applications in different categories on the UIQ Developer Program website. The competition will run from October 16th to December 31st. After the submission period has ended, a jury of experts will evaluate the submissions and appoint the winners.
"Last year's competition was very successful, and we were very impressed by the quality and diversity of the applications we received," says Naresh Chouhan, Head of the Developer Program at UIQ Technology. "The list of winning applications illustrates the richness and possibilities offered by the UIQ platform, and how application developers can make excellent use of it."
Now more than ever, UIQ is the platform of choice to develop applications running seamlessly on handsets from world-leading mobile phone manufacturers Sony Ericsson and Motorola, and the UIQ Open is a unique showcase for innovative and successful applications making the most of the platform.
The panel of judges will select two winning applications in each of the five categories (Business, Mobility, Lifestyle, Entertainment and Utilities) and the winners will be announced during the first few weeks of 2008.
Each winner will receive a prize package including: a UIQ phone; marketing packages for their application; an invitation to the UIQ Developer Fast Track event; and more. What proved to be the most valuable reward for last year's winners was the recognition and exposure they gained with their customers:
"As a UIQ Open winner, we gained a tremendous amount of exposure for our solution. We continue to see a good pace of sales and it has also raised awareness and credibility among device manufacturers," reports Ilya Eliashevsky, RoadSync Product Manager, DataViz, Inc.
"Being a UIQ Open winner has had numerous benefits to Agilemobile. The promotion done on UIQ Technology's part has substantially increased the awareness of our product on the UIQ platform, with end-users, resulting in substantially increased sales, and with device manufacturers with respect to bundling our software with UIQ devices," said Timon Haringa, Technical Director at AgileMobile.
