SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 12, 2007 Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) today introduced field revision management and Geographic Information System (GIS) redlining capabilities for its Trimble® Fieldport® software. Trimble Fieldport software is a Web-based, wireless software suite for utility field service management and location-based mobile mapping.
Trimble acquired Spacient Technologies, Inc. and its modular Fieldport software in November 2006. The acquisition has enabled Trimble to further expand its Mapping and GIS solutions for the field and mobile workforce.
Trimble Fieldport software integrates GIS and Global Positioning System (GPS) positioning data with customer and asset information for mobile workers in the utility, government and corporate sectors. With the addition of a field revision management and mobile GIS redlining tool, workers can now use text and graphics to note field conditions that are different than those indicated on maps in the GIS. Comments are immediately available to other field crews accessing the GIS and the annotations are submitted electronically to those responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the mapping system.
"The new field revision and mobile GIS features give field crews the chance to mark-up maps electronically and share those changes," said Chris Stern, director, Trimble's Mapping & GIS Division. "What used to take 12- to 18-months for many organizations can now be done in a matter of minutes, giving everyone in the field access to accurate, up-to-date information. It also simplifies the process of keeping information in the GIS current."
The new field revision management and mobile GIS redlining features also include advanced workflow management capabilities. Now work orders can be generated automatically to streamline the process of repairing and maintaining field assets. The identity of the user submitting the change, time, date and other details are also tracked automatically.
"Since the very first version of Trimble's Fieldport software became available it has continued to evolve to meet the needs of the customer," said Lori Armstrong, ESRI's industry solutions manager for water and wastewater. "We're pleased about the new additions to Fieldport and to have ESRI technology powering this industry solution."
The new field revision management and mobile GIS redlining features for the Trimble Fieldport software are available now through Trimble's Fieldport direct sales channel. Attendees at the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, Calif. can visit the Spacient booth #1301 to see a demonstration of Trimble's Fieldport software solution.
