Richmond, VA May 21, 2007 Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial and engineering consulting services, is currently working with the City of Newport News to make disease vector management more efficient using GIS technology.
Vector Control Technicians at Newport News respond to complaints concerning rodents, weeds and insects including mosquito infestations by locating breeding areas (vector control observations) and proposing an appropriate treatment. Timmons Group proposed an application using ESRIs ArcGIS Mobile 9.2 to help crews collect vector control observations in the field using Trimble GeoXT pocket PCs.
This solution enables crews to synchronize maps and related information directly with ArcGIS Server instances - caching information locally on the device to support both connected and disconnected operations. The application takes advantage of geodatabase domains and subtype information to minimize data collection errors offering significant advantages over applications based on ArcPad technology.
