4/24/07 - Grand Traverse, MI - In Garfield Township Planner Michelle Haugen is who to ask if the kids are all right.
Township Planner Michelle Haugen is using BlackBerry Smartphones in conjunction with her GIS to collect GPS points along walking routes to the local junior high. As part of the national Safe Routes 2 School program Michelle is using the latest mobile technology to help ensure the health and safety of children walking to school in Garfield Township.
Michelle Haugen made custom forms that can be used on any standard Blackberry to catalog safe or dangerous points along walking routes to school. BlackBerry Smartphones log these completed forms and send them back to a master database along with a GPS point that can then be displayed on a Web GIS mapping site for referencing.
Michelle chose to use the Blackberry platform after seeing a demonstration of Freeance Mobile software. Using Freeance Mobile, Michelle created easy-to-use forms with custom pull down fields that allow the parents, teachers and school kids to easily log records and GPS points along the walking routes taken to school. Freeance Mobile allows Michelle to automatically post completed Blackberry forms to a GIS web site that contains road data, aerial photography and other map layers. About Freeance Mobile Software
