RouteBuddy version 1.2 Announced PDF Print E-mail
Written by RouteBuddy

RouteBuddy are pleased to announce the culmination of several months of R&D work in the release of RouteBuddy 1.2

There are many extra features for our users in RouteBuddy 1.2 but the two main ones are Geocoding or "Address Lookup" and our proprietary Compression Engine.

Geocoding - Using address lookup in RouteBuddy has been developed to be a simple and uncomplicated process. In the Find sheet just type an address, town or city to find a location. This new feature eschews using fields to fill in which makes address finding quick and simple. In the future RouteBuddy Geocoding will become even more refined with our own planned, and user suggested, features that we will be implementing.

Compression engine - As most of our users are aware RouteBuddy ships with arguably the richest and most detailed map data on the Mac or PC Mapping and Navigation market, as such this has had a significant footprint on users drives. As Mac users always demand nothing but the best we have been loathe to strip this map data down to compete with the small footprint levels of the other developers to avoid losing fidelity and thereby accuracy. This quest for superlative road maps on the Mac has driven our engineers to create our own superb compression engine to deal with the inordinately high levels of raw data forming the base of any modern vector-based road map. From RouteBuddy 1.2 we now ship the same rich and detailed map data as before but by using our own compression engine achieve an incredible reduction of nearly 50% in installed size with absolutely no loss of fidelity or accuracy. A comparison of our maps to any others on the market will prove the value in having RouteBuddy Maps installed for many consumer, commercial and government uses.

RouteBuddy R&D - Through the work and exploration when developing RouteBuddy's proprietary compression engine, our engineers have discovered new means to advance what we can do with the raw map data we receive from our suppliers in the future. Extension R&D work is now in hand so expect Press announcements regarding these exciting developments sometime this summer.
