New Site Leverages NAVTEQ's Rich Data and deCarta's Proven Software Platform, Tools and Community to Help Developers Quickly Create Location-Based Applications
CHICAGO, April 3 -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, today announced location-based services (LBS) leader deCarta will provide developers on the NAVTEQ Network for Developers(TM) site with access to a comprehensive environment for rapid application development, tools, people and support they need to build the next generation of location-based applications.
The NAVTEQ Network for Developers site offers registered members easy access to a diverse assortment of valuable data and tools. Simply by joining, developers benefit from sample NAVTEQ(R) map data and industry-leading geospatial tools for evaluation and development from deCarta and other tool providers. The site includes developer forums, frequently asked questions and e-mail technical support provided by NAVTEQ and deCarta experts. In addition, by registering online developers will gain access to NAVTEQ product and technical information, NAVTEQ leading analysis and proprietary research, as well as a variety of powerful business development and technical services such as business plan reviews and testing services. The NAVTEQ Network for Developers site can be accessed on the Web by visiting: http://developer.navteq.com .
"Location-enabled wireless, Internet and other services are growing exponentially. To successfully meet the demand, there's a clear and immediate need for developers to be able to quickly create exciting new applications that incorporate map, location and a variety of other dynamic data," stated Marc Naddell, Vice President of Partner and Developer Programs. "With this in mind, we built the new NAVTEQ Network for Developers site in close affiliation with deCarta, because as a premier provider of geospatial platform software and services, deCarta has the experience and expertise to assist our customers in overcoming their application development and time-to-market challenges."
The NAVTEQ Network for Developers site provides a direct link to the deCarta DevZone, a free online service with a growing user base of over 900 developers, that offers the powerful, scalable Drill Down Server(TM) software platform, tools, community and experienced knowledge base to help developers develop and prototype leading-edge location-enabled applications. Through advanced web services and JavaScript APIs, developers can integrate maps, driving directions, geocoding, multi-point routing, proximity search and other location technology into their Internet, mobile, personal navigation and backend enterprise applications.
"We're very proud to be joining NAVTEQ's outreach and extension of technology and service capabilities to the LBS developer community," said deCarta President and CEO, J. Kim Fennell. "By collaborating as key players in the LBS ecosystem, we can help move the industry forward faster by making it easier for LBS developers to get quick and easy access to content and geo-spatial software platforms and tools."
Both NAVTEQ and deCarta are active champions of the developer arena. In 2003, NAVTEQ launched the first NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge(R), which has helped invigorate the market by accelerating the delivery of new location-enabled wireless applications. This industry-leading competition, which deCarta continues to support as a Platinum sponsor, offers a prize pool of up to $2,000,000 including cash and data license fees from NAVTEQ, deCarta and other sponsors.
