WaveMarket Selects NAVTEQ as the Preferred Digital Map Supplier for Its Location-Enabled Application

Tuesday, 27 March 2007
CHICAGO, March 27 -- NAVTEQ , a leading global provider of digital maps
for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, announced that it
has been designated by WaveMarket Inc. as the preferred supplier of
digital map data for its location-enabled consumer and enterprise
applications including the award-winning Sprint Family Locator,
Navigation, Mobile Local Search, StreetHive Friend Finder, Sprint
Precision Locator and Bell Mobility GoTrax.
WaveMarket, a global leader in location-based services, offers a
variety of location-enabled solutions designed to deliver
location-aware services to mobile handset consumers and businesses.
Sprint
Family Locator (Family Finder), the first application that
will employ NAVTEQ(R) data, allows parents to check the location of
family members from the web or their mobile handsets, and enables
parents to set up "safety checks" so they can automatically be notified
about a child or loved one's location, offering peace of mind to
parents without disturbing their loved ones.
"As a pioneer in the LBS industry, we recognize the importance
of the underlying map data as a critical component to our future
success," said Dr. Scott Hotes, CTO, WaveMarket. "By designating NAVTEQ
as our preferred digital map supplier, we now have access to not only
the leading digital map, but also to a greater breadth of resources and
expertise that will help us establish a long-term position as one of
the most successful location-oriented companies in the wireless space."
NAVTEQ's digital map data provides an ideal foundation for
supporting innovative wireless LBS applications that require accurate,
rich and relevant content. The NAVTEQ database contains millions of the
most-valued Points of Interest (POIs) including local banks, ATMs, gas
stations and other important destinations to enhance the mapping and
navigation experience for end-users. NAVTEQ's digital map, known for
its accuracy and extensive coverage, enables more effective location
tracking for consumer and enterprise applications.
"NAVTEQ is excited to become the preferred digital map data
provider to WaveMarket, a true innovator in wireless location-enabled
services," said Winston Guillory, Senior Vice President, Consumer &
Enterprise, NAVTEQ. "WaveMarket's relationships with top tier handset
manufacturers and wireless carriers further strengthen NAVTEQ's
leadership position in powering wireless LBS applications."
WaveMarket's line of location-based solutions is available in
the U.S., Canada and Latin America through Sprint-Nextel, Bell Mobility
Canada and Vivo Brazil.
