Application Providers May Leverage TCS' Trusted Position as E9-1-1 Provider
ANNAPOLIS, MD, Mar 20, 2007 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) emergency services, today announced the TCS VoIP Application Partner Program, which is designed to bring additional revenue opportunities to VoIP service providers. TCS' application platform that currently delivers enhanced 9-1-1 now offers a common plug-and-play architecture that enables third-party developers to easily integrate their revenue-enabling applications.
Individual and enterprise consumers view VoIP as a means to reduce the cost of telecommunications -- an "inexpensive voice technology." Beyond cost avoidance, VoIP creates opportunities for many new services and simplifies such services as international call-back and custom dial tones. The TCS VoIP Application Partner Program is focused on creating a community of revenue-enhancing, IP-based applications. Benefits for application provider participants include extended service reach, standard Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based interfaces, and flexible implementation options to maximize revenue and minimize costs.
Program participants will be able to leverage TCS' long-standing, proven relationships with mobile operators and VoIP service providers, using TCS' state-of-the-art TL9000-certified data centers for hosting with access to the TCS set of existing content and catalog applications, location technologies, and GIS-based mapping services.
TCS' VoIP Application Partner Program has the potential to deliver value beyond cheap voice technology to a majority of application and service consumers. The program brings together location determination technologies for different access technologies, and it bridges them with providers that deliver applications using location or other criteria to bring service differentiation and revenue to service providers.
Jon Croy, Senior Director of VoIP for TCS, stated, "TCS' innovative and pioneering spirit is showcased by offering a single SIP-based platform that meets mandated requirements to provide enhanced 9-1-1 and allows operators to move beyond their responsibilities to capitalize on the possibilities that VoIP offers in terms of value-added premium service applications."
