Tele Atlas Digital Maps and Enhanced Content to Enrich Driver Experience for German Premium Auto Manufacturer
'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, March 1 -- Tele Atlas (FSE: TA6, EUNV: TA), a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location based solutions, today announced it has signed an agreement with the BMW Group to provide digital map data and local search content for the next generation driver information/navigation systems in BMW vehicles in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Under the OEM agreement, a first for Tele Atlas with BMW, select BMW vehicle navigation systems will contain Tele Atlas maps starting in 2008; additional navigation systems are expected to be powered by Tele Atlas maps starting in 2009.
BMW Group's selection of Tele Atlas further validates the results of a recent "Digital Map Accuracy Study." Conducted by an independent global marketing information firm, the study was designed to test the accuracy of personal navigation systems powered by Tele Atlas digital map data and related content by assessing the navigation systems' ability to help users find random addresses and points of interest (POIs) and accurately route them to a destination. The results show that Tele Atlas maps establish a very credible benchmark for accuracy, with near perfect scores in the areas of address availability and route guidance, and the largest percentage of POIs found.
"This agreement firmly substantiates Tele Atlas' position as the accuracy and innovation leader in digital mapping, with the coverage and content that meets the needs of some of the most sophisticated in-car navigation system users in the world," said Alain De Taeye, co-founder and CEO, Tele Atlas. "In many ways, the in-car navigation market set the standard for digital maps, and triggered many of the innovations that are now driving the personal navigation and wireless markets. We expect our work with BMW to help us bring continued innovation to all the digital map markets we serve."
