3GSM BARCELONA, February 12 - Gamers can enjoy interactive mobile gaming across multiple handset devices and operators
Tao Group, author of intent(R) GamePlayer, will launch a new location based add-on module at 3GSM 2007 to enhance the speed at which location based games can be 'ported' across handsets and devices. The move reflects the consumer interest in location based services powered by GPS-enabled devices and the increased desire amongst gamers to play location-based, territory and movement-orientated games.
The downloadable module will allow users to access and play location based games on mobile devices that are embedded with the intent(R) GamePlayer platform.
Tao's intent GamePlayer enables developers, service providers such as operators, and handset manufacturers to provide consumers with a new type of 'over-the-air' (OTA) deployable mobile gaming experience, the speed and quality of which has not previously been seen outside of the dedicated gaming console market. Furthermore, Tao's technology allows developers to deploy their content to a wider market faster and at a reduced cost, including devices built with closed software platforms.
Francis Charig, Tao Group CEO, comments, "We are on the cusp of an explosion in location-based gaming. The market for location-based services is significant and expansion of services is constantly growing. Satellite navigation devices utilising GPS technology have paved the way for consumers to accept and in some cases become dependent on this technology."
Charig continues, "The potential for interactive multiplayer games where players can congregate in a single geographic location and complete is moving to a new level. One of the major barriers to widespread adoption of such a service has been fragmentation. We believe that adding GPS support to the intent(R) GamePlayer platform range of services will go a long way to addressing particular obstacle."
