MUNICH, Germany, January 24-- - Destinator Appoints New Members to Their Advisory Board and Secures Latest Round of Funding to Help the Company Broaden its Product Portfolio and Accelerate Growth in the Navigation, Wireless and Location-Based Services Markets
Destinator Technologies, the leading provider of customised navigation software, today announces that Brian Barry, a former senior executive at Ericsson with global product and customer responsibilities, and more recently head of Ericsson Canada, has been appointed CEO of Destinator Technologies. Brian joined Destinator's board of directors a year ago, and has taken an active role in shaping the company.
The company also announced the completion of a recent financing round, from existing investors and banks. This will be used to accelerate Destinator activities in Wireless, to consolidate product customisation efforts for existing customers, and to increase sales efforts globally. The injection is a continued sign of investor confidence in the plans submitted by Destinator and its ambition to become the leading supplier of navigation software to OEM's and Wireless vendors.
Destinator views the navigation market as evolving to incorporate an increasing number of connected devices, whether via cellular, Wi-Fi or other means. With this connectivity comes an ability to access a more diverse array of server-based dynamic content that can be intelligently fused into the navigation experience.
Destinator also appointed 3 additional members to its advisory board: Michael R. Bordelon, Simon Bransfield-Garth, and Jeff Brunet. The competence these individuals bring to Destinator will be used to support the Destinator management team on strategic issues primarily related to the creation of new navigation and location-based services experiences in a wireless and connected world. Participation in the emerging ecosystems associated with these new markets will broaden Destinator's traditional business of software for dedicated navigation devices. The recent announcement of the partnership between Motorola and Destinator is an important step in this direction.
Michael Bordelon, a former VP and General Manager of Motorola is an experienced global business executive with broad experience in cellular communications, automotive, and computing markets. He has especially proven his capability to build new high growth businesses.
Simon Bransfield-Garth is a seasoned manager from the mobile telecoms industry, with a strong commercial background combined with first class technical understanding. While at Symbian Ltd. as a VP he has been responsible for driving Symbian to an industry standard.
An expert in emerging mobile and telecom technologies, Jeff Brunet is Chief Technology Officer at Bitfone and has over 12 years of proven programming, architecture and systems integration experience in the mobile services and internet area.
"The expansion of our advisory board is a strategic step in the ongoing strengthening and positioning of Destinator Technologies for navigation-based services in the connected world. With this team in place we will move Destinator from one of the top players in the navigation market, to a dominant force in the wireless navigation and location based services space that is starting to show signs of significant growth," said Brian Barry CEO. "The experience of our advisory board members will help us tremendously in defining and developing new applications and services and in bringing them to market with existing and new partners."
