PITTSBURGH, Jan. 15 - Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR) , announced today it has been awarded a contract by Beaver County, Pennsylvania, to provide E9-1-1 plan and parcel mapping and geographic information system development services.
Under the 12 to 18 month, $1.5 million contract, Baker will develop E9-1-1 plan and parcel mapping layers, including accurate street centerline data to meet Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and National Emergency Number Association (NENA) standards for Phase I and II wireless deployment. Additionally, Baker will be integrating similar data with varying accuracies from multiple counties, to develop a seamless, countywide database. Ultimately, the system will enhance the County's existing Emergency Management Center by providing a means to locate 9-1-1 callers via this mapping system, and promote the exchange of data between County offices that will build a platform for future growth and application development.
Baker's Kevin M. Winne, project manager, said, "We look forward to providing our expertise in the development of the system that will have such a positive impact on a number of Beaver County residents. The monthly E9-1-1 surcharges they pay to PEMA will be put into action since the project is being funded through a PEMA grant."
Teamed with Baker on the project is L. Robert Kimball & Associates, Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, who will be responsible for field data verification and validation of wireless tower locations, data maintenance, and training.
