San Jose Police Department Selects New Intermec CN3 Rugged Mobile Computers for Patrol Officers PDF Print E-mail

EVERETT, Wash.-- The City of San Jose, Calif. has selected CN3 mobile computers, the world’s smallest rugged mobile computer, from Intermec Inc. (NYSE:IN) for its police department as part of the city’s Electronic Citation Project. The project is being developed in close partnership with Intermec Honours Program partners 3i Infotech Inc., MobileFrame LLC and Cogent Systems (Nasdaq: COGT).

The CN3 mobile computer allows officers to complete traffic citations faster and more efficiently than ever before. Equipped with a magnetic strip reader, the CN3 scans drivers’ licenses and displays the information on the screen. Drivers can sign the ticket on the screen or officers can make a quick print out for them to sign. The citation information is stored on the CN3 and automatically downloaded into the court system’s database, eliminating all transcription errors associated with the previously used manual data entry process. The new eCitation unit allows the city to collect 100 percent of its traffic citation revenue.

The glue of the San Jose Electronic Citation Project is an end-to-end bundled solution created by 3i Infotech and MobileFrame. MobileFrame’s Configurable Mobile Application™ software eliminates custom programming with an intuitive point-and-click graphical user interface, allowing users to create their own mobile applications. 3i Infotech, an expert in large-scale eCitation projects, provided integration of the CN3 with MobileFrame’s software and created the backend software for the system.

Partnered with Cogent’s BlueCheck™ fingerprint reader, a mobile tool designed for easy use directly in the field, the CN3 helps eliminate false disputes over fines by connecting the fine to the actual driver.

“MobileFrame’s eCitation solution will dramatically decrease the number of citation errors and avoid the need to enter data into two systems. 3i Infotech’s technology will also provide us with the ability to access citation data during critical investigations,” said San Jose Police Chief Robert Davis. “The Intermec CN3 system turned this around for us. We will be able to provide our patrol officers with the tools they need to do their jobs well, and ensure our citizens an accurate and fiscally responsible system.”

The pocket-sized CN3 is designed for the type of rugged use common in law enforcement and public safety applications.

In addition, its integrated GPS, Bluetooth® and other powerful communications capabilities allow customers to ensure that resources and assets are sent to their destinations, slashing costs and improving service. With integrated GPS and with a Bluetooth® headset, the CN3 increases efficiency and improves safety by enabling onscreen and hands-free turn-by-turn voice navigation.

With cellular built-in capabilities and Cisco Compatible WiFi® connectivity, users can be connected with voice and high-speed data anywhere, increasing their flexibility and productivity. Flexibility is increased even further by the ability to choose between GSM/EDGE and CDMA/EV-DO. And the choice between area imager and 1.3 megapixel camera means CN3 users can scan and decode any kind of barcode or capture still images, such as signatures or video images that can be stored for later use or sent immediately anywhere in the world.
