GPS-Enabled Devices to Deliver Rich, User-Friendly Personal Navigation
Boston, MA and Hamburg, Germany, November 1, 2006 Tele Atlas (FSE: TA6, EUNV: TA), a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location based solutions, and MyGuide Ltd., a navigation solutions provider, announced today an agreement to put highly accurate digital map and dynamic location content from Tele Atlas in the hands of MyGuide personal navigation (PNAV) device users.
Through the agreement, MyGuides PNAV devices featuring global positioning system (GPS) technology will leverage Tele Atlas fresh, rich digital map content to provide users with highly accurate, turn-by-turn maps to help them easily find people, products, and points of interest and the best possible routes to them.
Featuring Tele Atlas digital map data, the MyGuide® 4300 personal navigation device was released today in the United States by MyGuides sales and marketing partner Ares Digital, Inc. Embedded with a GPS antenna and SiRF III chip, the new device offers a user-friendly navigation experience with preinstalled detailed maps of the U.S., Canada, Guam and Puerto Rico and clear digital voice guidance that provides detailed door-to-door directions. The 4300 series also features a 4.3 inch screen, a powerful 400MHz processor, an MP3 player, picture viewer and built-in games.
The demand for high-quality, dynamic navigation information for consumers via GPS is increasing rapidly, said Joy Morel, Tele Atlas Director, Personal Navigation. As we continue building our leadership in the PNAV arena, were excited to work with MyGuide to further the adoption of this technology and look forward to helping expand their success in the consumer electronics market.
As MyGuide expands its presence into new markets including the U.S. & Canada, it is imperative the devices feature the most current, precise, reliable navigation offerings, said Randolph Kemps, CEO of Ares Digital. Through Tele Atlas leadership in the PNAV arena and outstanding support for the retail channel, were striving to make PNAV an affordable reality for todays consumer.
MyGuide currently offers several navigation devices in the U.S. market featuring Tele Atlas digital map data and content in addition to the 4300 series, including the entry-level 3000 series and the intermediate-level 3300 series.
