REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--Aug. 22, 2006--Wherify Wireless, Inc. (OTCBB:WFYW), a leading developer of wireless location products and services, today announced that Toys "R" Us will be the first retailer in the U.S. to make the breakthrough Wherifone(R) GPS Locator Phone available to consumers.
The Wherifone is the world's first GSM/GPS locator cell phone designed to give parents the ability to quickly locate and communicate with their children and will be available at all Toys "R" Us stores nationwide and online at www.toysrus.com beginning October 1, 2006.
"Toys "R" Us is the ideal partner for this launch, and we're very excited to be working with them to bring the benefits of the Wherifone to customers in the U.S.," said Timothy Neher, CEO and Founder of Wherify Wireless. "Toys "R" Us has unrivalled experience and reach in the family-oriented products market, and their core demographic of families with young children is the perfect match for our locator products and services."
Designed with pre-teens in mind, the Wherifone comes in a variety of trendy colors and features five pre-programmable buttons that let kids stay in touch with close family and friends or summon help with one-touch dialing. Additionally, the Wherifone's Aided GPS location technology lets parents, caregivers and safety officials quickly locate a child in need of help, bringing peace-of-mind and added safety to the mobile family.
"Toys "R" Us is committed to being the first retailer to offer the most innovative and affordable products available to our customers nationwide," said Ron Boire, President, Toys "R" Us, U.S. "The Wherifone is a great addition to the assortment of tech-driven items currently available at the World's Greatest Toy Store because it packages kid-safe technology into an stylish, functional mobile phone that appeals both to parents and children."
The Wherifone GPS Locator Phone will retail for $99.95, and fixed-usage Wherify Family Locator Service plans that include both voice and location services start at just $19.95 per month, allowing parents to control the phone's monthly costs. The competitively priced, all-inclusive service plans are straightforward and easy to understand, and there are no hidden costs for additional required services, so parents always know exactly what to expect. A Rate Protection Plan is also available to help save money when actual usage exceeds the current service plan's limit. Under the Rate Protection Plan, when a subscriber goes over their basic monthly limit their plan automatically adjusts itself to the most cost-effective service plan rather than blindly racking up overage charges. Their service plan then automatically resets back to the basic plan at the beginning of each month.
About The Wherifone
The Wherifone is the world's first GSM/GPS locator cell phone designed for children and seniors. The two-way cell phone has built-in Aided-GPS location and "managed dial" features that give on-the-go parents the peace of mind of being able to quickly locate and communicate with their young children and elderly relatives, while also controlling who they can call and how much it will cost. Wherify's Aided-GPS performance will vary, but often provides location results in places where conventional GPS solutions may have performance issues, such as in many types of wood frame buildings and vehicles, and under dense foliage. The Wherifone's patented Aided-GPS location solution is supported by the Wherify Global Location Service Center, which maintains information on all the GPS satellites in space through a series of GPS Reference Receivers, and applies location information into Wherify's mapping and location management system to let users see a device's position displayed on a map or aerial photograph.
